A zoom lens without F-drop. The entrance pupil of a zoom lens changes in diameter as the focal length is changed. The entrance pupil gradually enlarges as the lens zooms toward the telephoto end. When the entrance pupil is equally large as the focusing lens group, it cannot get any larger and the F-number drops. This is called F-drop. Mercury has been designed so that the front lens diameter is larger than the diameter of the entrance pupil at the telephoto side to prevent this F-drop.

Compatible with IR cameras. The different wavelength of visible light and infrared light causes a blurred image at night and during low light conditions for ordinary lenses. MERCURY is designed to eliminate the focus shif t that occurs during night, and provides a clear image during all lighting conditions, day as night.
